Japanese publisher becomes the latest to embrace the strengths of Epic's technology...
The rise of middleware looks set to continue into the current generation of consoles, as publishers look to reduce costs and ensure a smooth transition across PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation3.
Already the engine of choice amongst many developers, Capcom today confirmed that it has entered into an agreement with Epic Games to utilise the Unreal Engine 3.0. Unsurprisingly, both parties refused to elaborate on what the technology will be used in, though rumourmongers have already began to suggest a switch for Resident Evil 5.
"The Unreal Engine is one of the most powerful and versatile tools available for next-generation game development," said Mark Beaumont, executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe. "More than just a graphics engine, UE3 will empower the development team to create the quality experience that gamers expect from a Capcom product."
"Capcom is known for the quality and artistry of their games," said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games. "We're glad that Unreal Engine 3 can be a part of their creative process."
