EA Games and Criterion confirms a new title for the next-gen debut of Burnout...

Burnout 5 has a new name, along with screens, and an announcement trailer to prove it. Following the game's setting in Paradise City, the slightly effeminate sounding Burnout Paradise is certainly suggestive of the new direction Criterion and EA are striving for on the next-generation.

Bleached skies, HDR lighting, bloom effects, and a laid-back soundtrack is indicative of the style EA are employing in other next-gen titles such as SKATE and contrasts the typical thrash metal that also makes an appearance; although we're hoping the conspicuous lack of any crashes is just Criterion teasing at what will come in the next few weeks.

"We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time. Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all-new high," said Pete Hawley, Executive Producer, Burnout Paradise. "There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features but the core of the game is still pure Burnout. Instant accessibility will be reinforced by innovative on-line capabilities which will see Burnout Paradise smash racing conventions.''

now you can unless you own a 360, the cagney update is now online ready for download in the playstation store (360 owners have to wait another 3 weeks cause criterion games are too lazy to sort out the minor bugs on the 360 version)

I don't have any older burnout games, but this one is by far the best racing game I've ever played. There is so much to explore it looks awesome there are 75 cars in the game. So much better than Motostorm by many factors of 10. My current favorite ... [ Read full comment... ]

Well, I haven't played the previous Burnout games as I'm a console newbie, but I really like Burnout Paradise. It's like all the cool driving bits of GTA Vice City without all the other annoying bits. I've been playing it for at least 2 or 3 hours ... [ Read full comment... ]

I'm a casual gamer who loved the Burnout series. I could go in, place a few races, crash more than a few cars, and leave a happy camper. It worked out frustration and stress like nothing else. No longer. This new game is a complete detraction fro... [ Read full comment... ]
