Bungie and Marvel have announced the Halo Graphic Novel, a 128-page comic book set in the world of Master Chief and the Covenant, which is set to be released in July 2006. Currently 95% complete, the novel features one main story and three side-stories, and has been developed by a raft of key artists and writers from the comic book industry including stalwarts Jean "Moebius" Giraud and Simon Bisley.

Following a group of Covenant forces as they try to discover the reason behind the loss of communications with an agricultural ship, The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor, has been written by Lee Hammock with art from Simon Bisley. Armor Testing sees the Mjolnir Mark VI being put through its paces thanks to writer Jay Faerber, and artists Andrew Robinson and Ed Lee. Sergeant Johnson's heroic escape from the Flood forces is documented in Tsutomu Nihei 's Breaking Quarantine, while the fourth story (Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa) from legendary artist Jean "Moebius" Giraud creates a vision of life in a pre-invasion New Mombasa.

As you'd expect from the protective developer, Bungie has been very hands-on in the production of the graphic novel, with many of the studio's own artists and writers helping to sketch out the stories to ensure fidelity to the Halo universe.

It's not Halo 3, but the graphic novel should satisfy hardcore Halo fans until the Master Chief makes his return.

We'll have more news shortly...
