Sony unveils Blu-ray discs with standard definition movies embedded on them for download onto the PSP...

At the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony has unveiled Blu-ray discs that have PSP compatible, standard definition movies embedded on them.

By linking the PS3 up to the PSP via USB connection, gamers will be able to download this standard definition material onto the handheld console. The data is then available for playback on the PSP.

Exactly when such discs will become available for retail is unclear, although it's probable that legal issues regarding the copyrights and intellectual property owned by film studios will have to be tackled before such hardware is approved for distribution.

Perhaps Sony has finally found a useful outlet for their Blu-ray disc's impressive memory storage capabilities. However, it seems like Sony would be shooting itself in the foot with such technology as it would certainly impede on the ailing UMD market for the PSP (hardware also owned by Sony).

UMD already dead. Sony has nothing to lose by adding
SD stuff on the Blu-ray discs for PSP viewing.

Sony should have added a 40 or 80 gig internal hard drive like the ipod to the psp instead of making it thinner and lighter! With the extra space it would be
the same size as the Orignal psp but with a hard drive! get the word out maybe they will he... [ Read full comment... ]

JAZZ-1991, what the hell are you talking about? The PSP redesign is 19% slimmer and 33% lighter than the original PSP. The buttons are more responsive, it supports tv out, has twice the RAM. There is no need to make it any smaller, it feels great in ... [ Read full comment... ]
