Reports suggest that a subsidiary of hardware manufacturer ASUS is developing a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360...


According to reports from Taiwan, a subsidiary of hardware manufacturer ASUS is working on a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360. The subsidiary, Pegatron, will be commencing production soon according to the reports, and aims to ship the product within six months.

These reports come from Taiwan's Economic Daily News (via Kotaku), and follows previous rumours that manufacturers Lite-On are working on a standalone Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360. However, these latest rumours are the first we've heard of a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360. Could this be yet another Xbox 360 SKU for Microsoft's burgeoning list?

Although Microsoft continues to tow the line of digitally distributed HD content via Xbox Live, the eventual integration of Blu-ray hardware with the Xbox 360 seems inevitable. This is a point not lost on Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who commented earlier this year, "We'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense."

tell me again why arcade and core owners will have to buy the hdd, you either cant read or you just couldnt be bothered to say the install option (note option meening you dont need the hdd only if you wish to install the game or a small part of it) a... [ Read full comment... ]

Guess it's tough luck for Arcade and Core users. Looks like they'll be forced to pay for the obscenely overpriced HDD if they want to play some 360 games in future.

Actually the 360 has a better graphics processor and more stable O/Sthan the ps3- just because the core processor is quicker doesnt actually really make as much differece as as you would expect. (think running assasins creed on a quad core with a i84... [ Read full comment... ]
