T2 release its Q1 fiscal 2006 results along with its product line-up for the year ahead and beyond...
Take-Two Interactive has today revealed its financial results for the first quarter of the 2006 fiscal year, which ended on January 31st 2006. Net sales for the three months stood at $265.0 million (£152.3 million) compared to $502.5 million (£288.9 million) in the same period the previous year. Net income also dropped from $55.2 million (£31.7 million) in Q1 2005, becoming a net loss of $29.1 million (£16.7 million). The company has attributed these comparative results to the first quarter fiscal 2005 release of GTA: San Andreas, and the "...continued retail weakness for video game software and lower retail pricing during the holiday selling season in both North America and Europe..." in this year of transition.
Take-Two announced in the report that it expects a return to profits in the fourth quarter of the 2006 fiscal year, which ends on October 31st 2006.
One thing that is particularly noticeable is the company's continued reliance of the Grand Theft Auto brand from Rockstar Games, which contributed the largest chunk of revenue for Take-Two in the first quarter, thanks to the release of GTA: Liberty City Stories and the platinum/classics release of GTA: San Andreas in that period.
Looking to the second quarter line-up, which runs until April 30th 2006, Take-Two and its subsidiaries will be releasing titles including Midnight Club 3: DUB Remix Edition for Xbox and PlayStation2, GTA: Liberty City Stories on PlayStation2, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on both Xbox 360 and PC, and Top Spin 2 on Xbox 360, GameBoy Advance, and Nintendo DS.
Titles to be released further into 2006 include Rockstar Games' Table Tennis for Xbox 360 and Bully on PlayStation2 and Xbox, The Darkness on Xbox 360, the videogame adaptation of the Da Vinci Code on Xbox, PlayStation2 and PC, Prey on Xbox 360 and PC, and Family Guy on the current-generation consoles. 2K Sports will also be releasing 2K7 versions of its sports titles.
Take-Two has also revealed that 2007 will be a big year for Rockstar with the company expecting a strong next-generation line-up for some of the company's franchises - although T2 are yet to announce which franchises, GTA and Red Dead Revolver are sure to feature.
TVG will have more on Take-Two Interactive's 2006 line-up shortly, including further coverage on Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion...
