Maryland-based Big Huge Games becomes the latest studio to become an internal outfit at THQ...
Already hard at work on an RPG for the publisher, it's been announced today that Maryland-based Big Huge Games has been acquired by THQ. The deal, which is expected to close 'shortly', means that Big Huge follows the likes of Volition Inc. (Saints Row) and Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes) in becoming part of THQ, which now has over 16 studios spread out across the globe.
The RPG, which is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC under the watchful eye of Ken Rolston (Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) remains on track for a release in 2009.
"The acquisition of Big Huge Games is a big win for THQ as we continue to expand both our internal development capabilities and our portfolio of owned intellectual properties," said Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "The talent at Big Huge Games has an outstanding history of developing top-selling quality games and we look forward to their creation of many exciting new owned franchises for THQ."
"We are extremely excited to become a part of THQ," said Tim Train, president and COO of Big Huge Games. "We believe their passion for games, developer support, and understanding of the creative process is without parallel in the industry. THQ provides an ideal environment to help us develop new, innovative games for both core gamers and mass market."
Besides the RPG, Big Huge Games is working on other console titles based on their own proprietary technology, together with a new game that in an interview with Gamasutra, Sorensen said "sealed the deal."
