THQ and HB Studios bringing beach cricket, volleyball, and 'soccer' to Wii gamers this summer...
THQ and HB Studios have today confirmed the development on Big Beach Sports, heading to Wii this summer.
Featuring several beach-based sports including volleyball, bocce, disc golf (?), football (both American and standard versions), and a Wii debut for that most English of games - cricket, Big Beach Sports will include four-player modes along with single-player tournament options.
"Big Beach Sports drops players into a seaside resort setting with a wide variety of compelling outdoor sports to play and master," said Randy Shoemaker, director, global brand management, THQ. "Sports including bocce, cricket and disc golf are making their Wii debuts and combined with the inclusion of more traditional games like soccer, American football and volleyball, Big Beach Sports will be an appealing title for the growing audience of Wii gamers."
"The innovative Wii Remote controller has revolutionized sports gaming, letting us involve the player like never before," said Steve Dauterman, senior vice president of product development, THQ. "Big Beach Sports applies the control scheme to each of the varied sports featured, letting players pick up and play the games they know and learn the ones they don't know."
HB Studios is the regularly used 'hired help' outfit for EA Sports' myriad of titles on PC and PlayStation 2. The team recently put together the Rugby 08 and NBA Live 08, both on PS2 for the publishing giant, so they certainly know their sports. As for development on Wii, the team were responsible (along with EA Canada) for developing Madden NFL 07 for the Nintendo console.
