Eidos announces the sequel to Battlestations: Midway, due for release on the Xbox 360 and PC...
Eidos has announced Battlestations: Pacific, the sequel to Battlestations: Midway which was released a year ago. The title is set to come to Xbox 360 and PC with a wide range of new features that will no doubt please the game's fan base.
Topping the list of these new features is a much more extensive single-player game, comprising of 28 missions and two separate campaigns. Players can either push on as the Americans in the aftermath of the Battle of Midway up until Okinawa, or re-write history as the Japanese and attempt to take the Pacific from the War's beginnings at Pearl Harbour.
One of the 21 new playable game units will be kamikaze aircraft. The infamous Ohka planes of the Japanese Imperial fleet have been in popular demand from the game's fans, so it's nice to see that Eidos are responding with their inclusion for the sequel.
"Battlestations: Pacific is even bigger, more authentic and innovative than ever before, taking the Battlestations franchise to the next level and allowing players to relive some of the most memorable battles in modern history, as well as gain an insight into what could have been, should Japan have gained the upper hand against the United States," said Trevor Burrows, Brand Manager at Eidos. "We have been paying great attention to our loyal online community and fan base to ensure that Battlestations: Pacific delivers the most exciting, authentic and fun Battlestations experience yet!"
A new Skirmish mode is set to open up co-op play, allowing multiple players to join forces online and battle the computer. Additionally, five new multiplayer modes will add to the first game's offerings, although whether or not they will support more than 8 players online this time around is unclear.
As usual, battles will take place under, over and on the sea with a wide range of submarine, ship and aircraft units. However, amphibious warfare will join the fray for this sequel with parachute squadrons, landing craft and defensive emplacements.
Keep your eyes peeled for an exclusive TVG Battlestations: Pacific Q&A in the near future.
