Pirates sequel set to hit the handhelds and the next-gen consoles thanks to Buena Vista Games...

Buena Vista Games has today announced that the handheld versions of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Manās Chest, based on the forthcoming movie of the same name are currently being developed by Seattle firms Amaze Entertainment and Griptonite Games. The company, which is the interactive arm of the Disney Corporation, has also announced that the next-gen adaptations of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Manās Chest is being handled by UK firm Eurocom, who were previously involved in the development of James Bond: Nightfire.

Allowing players to take control of Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann the game follows the storyline of the future blockbuster and is expected to be release in Summer 2006. Confirming the development of the adaptations, Graham Hopper, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Buena Vista Games, Inc said, "The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise will develop over the next few years as one of the most exciting and important initiatives BVG will spearheadā¦Our upcoming games will expand the Pirates world and allow fans to take on the roles of some of the most rousing characters ever created, and experience firsthand their perilous adventures."

This title should prove to be much closer to the standard movie tie-in titles that we all know, rather than the previous Pirates of the Caribbean title which was in actual fact an original Pirates IP before being pasted over as a licensed game.

Weāll have more soon...
