The gameplay in GUNPEY consists of rows of panels climbing upwards from the bottom of the screen which players must flip and move to connect the lines inside the panels. When a line spans the width of the screen the panels will explode making room for more. It's game over if the panels rise all the way to the top of the screen. Each action by the player changes the game's music so that skilled players can even deliver their very own musical performance.

Atari Picks Up Gunpey News

The updated tribute to the GameBoy creator is picked up for European release by Atari.

Announced by Q Entertainment's Tetsuya Mizugushi back in July 2006, the PSP and Nintendo DS versions of Gunpey have finally found a European publisher - Atari.

The game, named after GameBoy and Wonderswan creator Gunpey Yokoi following his tragic death in 1997, is a music-based puzzler where gamers change music according to their actions. Q Entertainment has already established a strong reputation for the use of dynamic music in games, following the development Lumines amongst other titles.

Both DS and PSP versions will feature head-to-head Wi-Fi multiplayer, though each will also include their own gametypes (gamers can collect up to forty different skins in the PSP's Challenge mode, whilst DS gamers will be able to mix their own soundsets, disrupting their opponent's music).

Gunpey is set for a European release in March.
