Apple Chief Turned Down CELL Offer In 2004 News

Reports suggest that the Mac boss turned down a face-to-face offer from Kutaragi-san himself...


One of the big news reports in the world of I.T. last week was Appleâs switch from IBM processors to Intel. Now whilst this wouldnât normally encroach into the videogames industry, one detail has emerged that has certainly proved to be quite interesting.

In an article for the New York Times entitled What's Really Behind the Apple-Intel Alliance, an âexecutive close to Sonyâ describes how Apple Chief Steve Jobs met with two representatives to discuss the processor options for the next-gen Macs in 2004: SCEI CEO and President Ken Kutaragi, and former Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Nobuyuki Idei. According to the report, Kutaragi-san tried to interest Jobs in accepting the CELL processor as the next chip for the Mac, but Jobs backed away because he was, ââ¦disappointed with the Cell design, which he believes will be even less effective than the PowerPC.â

The fact that the CELL processor has been billed by Sony as a versatile bit of hardware means that the disinterest of Apple is sure to be bit of a disappointment for execs at IBM and Sony â“ weâll have more news shortly.

not true. mine jumped 50 to 100 and i have had no problems since the update. i just hope that theres patches coming out for trophies soon...

very cool as in dead and yes sony admitted the new firmware can potentially kill a ps3 if the download leaps from 50% to 100% instead of ie 51%52%53% ect
