John Schappert to head LIVE, software and services; former Executive VP follows Don Mattrick over to Redmond...
Microsoft has today confirmed the appointment of John Schappert as Corporate Vice President of LIVE, Software and Services. A former Executive Vice President at Electronic Arts, Schappert joins Microsoft just weeks after the appointment of another ex-EA veteran, Don Mattrick, as Senior Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business - the post recently vacated by Peter Moore.
Speaking about Schappert's move to Microsoft, Mattrick said "I am thrilled to have John join the deep bench of proven talent already on Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business...John's expertise will help us focus on expanding and enriching our market leadership with LIVE in areas like online services while broadening our audience. John will also build on the great work already happening in the developer community working with Chris Satchell and the XNA organization."
As head of the LIVE, Software, and Services, Schappert will be responsible for the future strategy of Xbox Live, Arcade, XNA, Windows Live, and Microsoft's casual gaming arm on PC. He'd previously founded Tiburon Entertainment in 1994, later EA Tiburon, responsible for creating the Madden NFL series on consoles.
"With these changes, we are dedicated to providing our customers, our partners and our employees with value, quality and high-performing teams," Mattrick continued.
