News organisation speaks to analysts about the looming next-gen battle...
Global news outlet Reuters has reported on the views and opinions of several analysts regarding the forthcoming next-generation console war between Sony and Microsoft. In the article, analysts including KBC Securitiesâ Hiroshi Kamide talk about the risks of the battle especially with regards to Sony who in the current generation hold about a 70% share of the market:
"The risks are surprisingly higher than people think because unless they [Sony] can replicate its 70 percent dominant market position, things are going to be very difficult for them going forward.â
The report also features a forecast from Wedbush Morgan Securities who have estimated a neck-and-neck position for Sony and Microsoft by 2007 with 23 million units sales each. One of the concerns is the price of the PlayStation3 with analysts predicting the machine to be the most expensive yet with estimates of between $400 and $500 per unit â“ though the official price is yet to be confirmed by Sony.
Of course speculation as to which machine will win this is set to continue until both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 are well into their life-cycles, with 2007 the year to look out for.
