Amazon Lists GTA: Sin City News

Online retailer suggests next game will in fact be Sin City, but we've got our doubts...

Speculation of the next GTA title has been high ever since the game was first briefly announced at E3'03, along with the registration of the www.gtasanandreas.com and www.grandtheftautosanandreas.com domain names by a Take-Two representative in May 2002.

This was seen as concrete proof that San Andreas would be the setting for the last GTA title to appear on the current generation of systems, completing a trilogy of locations that were featured in the original top-down GTA title.

Prior to Christmas an internet rumour did the rounds suggesting that the game will in fact be labelled as 'GTA4: Sin City', prompting many to suspect that the game will be set in a town resembling Las Vegas and tie into the storyline in the swinging 70s. Whilst we can see the 70s theme fitting in perfectly (Liberty City - 90s, Vice City - 80s, San Andreas/Sin City 70s, heck you could even go back to GTA: London set in the 60s) and the location would be perfect, we still found ourselves doubting the title.

Today www.amazon.co.uk has updated its site with a listing for GTAIV: Sin City; however we're not convinced just of yet.

Firstly it goes without saying that pressurised into creating pre-order sales, sites such as Amazon have to have key titles up as soon as possible; both Take-Two and RockStar are notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to discussing the GTA franchise, skillfully spinning anything you say to them - certainly we'd be surprised if this had come from an official source.

What little we have been able to squeeze from them suggests that RockStar North are keen to finish a trilogy of games on the current systems, before re-inventing the series with the true fourth title on the next-generation of systems; calling this title GTAIV is something we're all but convinced we won't end up seeing.

Perhaps it's the geek in us or the current trend for trilogies, but we quite liked the fact that San Andreas was the last city alongside Liberty City and Vice City in the original GTA videogame; something that we'd be surprised to see the witty chaps at RockStar North miss out on.

Amazon has the game listed for release on November 5th, which again we wouldn't take as official, however the suggestion that only a PS2 version is on the cards at the moment is true; RockStar amended a previous deal with Sony Computer Entertainment, allowing 'GTA: Double Pack' to head to the Xbox in exchange for a time-limited exclusive deal for the next GTA title.

We'll have more information hopefully soon.
