Age Of Conan 'One Of The Fastest Selling PC Games' News

The Hyborian Adventures begin as over 400,000 units of the MMO are sold, but still pales WoW's opening sales...
Just days after launching one of the most anticipated MMOs for 2008, developer Funcom has announced that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has become one of the fastest selling titles on PC of all time.
The MMO, distributed by troubled UK publisher Eidos, has so far sold around 400,000 units worldwide, with over 110,000 copies of the Collector's Edition selling out ahead of last week's launch.
"The initial sales and reviews are very encouraging, and it's great to see that so many are enjoying Age of Conan," said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. "This is just the beginning, and we already look forward to massive updates and cool new features. We believe our focus on making Conan unique and groundbreaking is a key reason for the initial success. This is a focus we will keep and reinforce, and players can expect continued quality and innovation as we enter a new era for the game."
Originally expected in 2006, Age of Conan has received massive support from the PC community in recent months, with over one million beta testers traversing some of Hyboria's toughest terrains. An Xbox 360 edition of the game was first announced back in 2006, although it's unclear whether Age of Conan's console debut is still in the works.
Despite the figures however, Age of Conan's impressive start to life pales in comparison with Blizzard's behemoth, World of Warcraft. Back at its launch in 2004, the game sold over 240,000 units within 24 hours across North America, with an extra 280,000 units added on its European release a few months later. There were over 1.5 million WoW subscribers within a little over three months after launch, and the Azeroth-based game hasn't looked back since.
Still, Funcom's sword-swingingly epic MMO isn't off to a bad start.
