Treasure releases the first information and screenshots from a sequel to a much loved Saturn classic…
Acclaimed Japanese developer Treasure (rising to the stakes of uber during the Saturn days) today released the first specific information and screenshots from Advanced Guardian Heroes â“ a title that is likely to make many a Saturn owner weep with joy.
The sequel to the much-loved title strangely appears to deviate significantly from the 1996 classic, with an entirely new cast of four characters, although at present only Enn, Rai and Hyô have been revealed; each of the characters offer varying skills with some more focussed on physical attacks and others specialising in magic. From the first screens it does however suggest that a number of enemy characters are making a reappearance, alongside the skeleton grunts we can certainly make out the appearance of the deranged Zur from the first title.
Although many things appear to have changed since the original, we can expect Treasureâs traditional brilliance when it comes to frantic fights, combos and special attacks. The two shoulder buttons are used to perform magic and physical attacks, whilst combinations with the B button allow you to select between the different types of attacks on offer. From the initial information that has become available it appears that Treasure have also incorporated a new counter technique into the game.
Strangely no mention is yet made of the titular Guardian Hero that featured in the original, and appeared whenever you pulled off a special attack â“ it wouldnât be a Guardian Hero title without that skeleton warrior adorned with gold armour, so weâre guessing heâll turn up eventually. Equally no mention is yet made of the excellent branching system that featured in the SEGA Saturn original, and allowed you to explore through dozens of different ways to progress through the game.
Advanced Guardian Heroes features a variety of modes, allowing up to two players to link up and take on the Story mode, whilst four players can link up to see who is the best in the VS mode.
Currently Advanced Guardian Heroes is only scheduled for release in Japan; however you can be sure weâll bring you more on this title soon.
