Activision: No Guitar Hero II Pack Price Drop News

Over 300,000 downloaded song packs to date give Activision an excuse not to drop the price on Xbox Live Marketplace...

Arguably some of the more contentious pieces of Xbox Live Marketplace downloads available, the Guitar Hero Song Packs have been accused of being over-priced since the launch of Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360 earlier in 2007.

Bundling a few songs from the original Guitar Hero for 500 Microsoft Points (£4.25) hasn't proved a popular strategy for some gamers, especially in light of EA's recently announced whole album downloads for Rock Band. At their E3 2007 press conference however, Activision were quick to defend the price of the packs, announcing that over 300,000 downloads had been completed to date.

Head of Publishing at Red Octane (Guitar Hero's publisher bought by Activision in 2006) Dusty Welch commented that the price of the song packs were "very attractive and desirable for consumers."

Looking into the future, and the impending release of Guitar Hero III, it doesn't seem that much is going to change either: "...for us, it's about offering even better music at current price points to get consumers excited about."

wireless guitars should be available with gh3 in the near future. until then, i still enjoy the game. Ive just earned 5 stars on jordan and freebird, even with a wired guitar.

So let me get this right...

I pay £69.99 (RRP) for Guitar Hero 2 on 360 (without wireless), and then probably have to pay another £40 to get the superior line-up of the original...

Activision should have had all the original tracks ... [ Read full comment... ]
