Activision Confirm Spider-Man 3 News

The second movie/videogame may not even be out, but that doesn’t stop Activision from announcing new Spider-Man titles...
Despite the fact that the second movie and accompanying videogame have yet to be released, Activision today confirmed the development of Spider-Man 3 set to tie in with the release of the third movie from Sam Raimi in 2007. Naturally this leads to the presumption that the title will be developed on next-gen systems, with the Xbox2, Playstation3 and N5 all scheduled to launch before or during 2006.
Naturally specific details are not yet known, however itās expected that the game will closely tie in with the events of the film, recently confirmed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and widely regarded to feature the debut of Venom on the big screen.
Itās certainly no surprise to learn of a third videogame being announced so quickly, seeing as Activision have pocketed closet to $245 million from the franchise. In addition Activision confirmed plans to develop a videogame based on the Spider-Man comics, and scheduled for release in 2005 ā“ sadly no details are yet known on this title either.
"Activision is very excited to further expand its licensing agreement with Spider-Man Merchandising, L.P. on the third installment in the blockbuster series," said Ron Doornink, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. "We expect that our upcoming Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 video games will continue building on the success we have already experienced with the franchise. Spider-Man has proven to be one of the most popular video game properties in the world. We expect that our future titles based on the brand will continue to top consumers' most wanted lists every year. "
Tim Rothwell, President of Marvel Worldwide Consumer Media Group, added, "Activision has been an amazing partner and great addition to the Spider-Man franchise. They truly understand the basic essence that makes Spider-Man one of the most popular characters in the world and continue to translate this into engaging and entertaining interactive content. The bar has been raised with each introduction of the character and we're excited to see what they develop for the third installment. "
