360 Dashboard Update Imminent News

Microsoft begins to unveil exactly what to expect the first major update to Xbox 360's Dashboard...
It might have been a long time in coming, but at last the wait is nearly over. Despite smaller updates in January and March, which lightly tinkered or patched unknown security issues, it seems that the big update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard will be available (according to Microsoft's Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson) "in about a week".
So what can we expect, and will the update feature that most holiest of holies, background downloading?
Speaking to online publication Joystiq, Xbox's Group Marketing Manager Aaron Greenberg confirmed that background downloading will form part of the update, and that players will actually have six download slots at their disposal as part of this new "Active Downloads" feature. Greenberg pointed out that downloads would pause when gamers played over Xbox Live.
In addition there'll be a number of additions and re-arrangements to the various Dashboard sections including options for 'Television' and 'Short Films', which suggests that content from News Corporation's DirectTV/BSKYB (as spoken about at CES in January) may be coming closer to fruition. Recently added downloadable content will also become easier to access after the re-structuring whether that's trailers, game-related updates, or Xbox Live Arcade titles.
Further tweaks will also see a bookmarking option appear when stopping a DVD to play a game, and fast-forward/rewind buttons on the trailer controls.
We'll have an exact date for the update shortly...
