A number of retailers across the territory report sell outs as New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Training take two of the three top spots...
Following scenes of exuberance in Japan when the Nintendo DS Lite went on sale earlier in the year, Nintendo of America has reported that similar excitement across North America has meant that over 136,500 units of the slim-line handheld have been sold in just two days. Sales of the Lite has even outpaced the launch of the GameBoy Advance SP, which launched back in 2003, by 12%.
In addition, New Super Mario Bros. has jumped into the top of the US software charts despite that it's only been on sale for two weeks; NoA has released a bit of trivia that a copy of the game has been selling every four seconds. Brain Training sales have also tripled, which has taken the puzzle title into the third spot.
With the June 23rd countdown to the European launch of the DS Lite just a week away, be prepared for similarly impressive figures within the next month...Let's just hope that Nintendo doesn't re-route Euro DS Lites back to the US to fulfil demand.
We'll have more news shortly...
