TVG discovers that it’s harder to squeeze details from Kobayashi-san then blood from a stone…
TVG: We are in politically sensitive times. Does it not worry you that the media at large could misinterpret Killer 7? Have you concerns about being politically incorrect? It could also be said that Killer7 is a very big departure from the current trend of GameCube titles; do you think this will harm the success of it?
HK: This is a somewhat controversial game but itâ??s a game that is loosely based on the times that we live in. There are lots of movies based on politically controversial events so I donâ??t see a problem with taking video games into that â??arenaâ? either. Killer 7 has been designed in a new and unique style. We hope you like it.
TVG: Some of Capcom recent and future games all share a theme of trying to be both inventive and stylised. Was it a conscious decision to give the game is unusual cell looks and how does this polygonal and comic book look add or aid the creative process for the team?
HK: Capcom is famous for its creativity and originality, it always has been. Killer 7â??s graphical style is core to the original concept of the game. It sounds like the designers had a lot of room to work with when creating the graphics. They knew they wanted to do something different and not being forced to following standard 3-D CG based models gave them that kind of freedom.
TVG: How would you interpret the game style and the predominant action within it and is blood and gore a big influence in the game?
HK: The gameplay is both FPS and TPS. Blood and gore is a feature of this title.
TVG: Gameplay takes place from a third-person perspective, switching to a fixed-camera first-person view for the shooting sections. How will this work. How automatic will this be and is the switch views led by the player or even the opposition?
You will have to wait and see.
TVG: Can you tell us some of the subtleties of the game? Apart from shooting what other aspects will gamers find interesting?
HK: The whole thing is very complex. I imagine gamers will find many different elements of extreme interest but the storyline and complex plot is definitely a key feature of the game.
TVG: Gamers will take control of a character that can physically assume the role of seven different personalities, each with unique abilities; how does this work in context of the story and what are the main differences with each personality trait?
HK: I donâ??t want to reveal that information at this time. Please wait for some new news soon.
TVG: How diverse and specific to action will locations be and can you detail one dramatic event in the game that really captures the essence and spirit of killer 7?
HK: Locations are important to the story and to gameplay and while I canâ??t get into specifics I can say that the various puzzles are location and character based in nature making for some interesting gameplay
TVG: Not a lot is known about the title however there have been some concerns that style takes a precedence over substance, with some claiming that the gameplay will offer a linear experience akin to titles such as Dragons Lair and the QTE in Shenmue; does innovation mainly lie with the visual style or can we expect some surprises in the gameplay stakes?
HK: I believe that Killer 7 is totally unique so it really canâ??t be compared to any other game. Itâ??s in a class all its own
TVG: Can you elaborate on the unique â??travellingâ?? system featured in Killer7?
HK: Not at this time.
TVG: Is there any truth to the rumours that Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) declined Killer7 for release in America and that is why the PS2 version wonâ??t ship there; if not, perhaps you could explain why the PS2 version will only be released in Japan and Europe?
HK: Approval processes and standards differ for each of the different territories. Killer 7 hasnâ??t been rejected, the approval process is merely taking a tad bit longer than in the other territories.

i think of it as a maturity aspect and those who are mature enough to play those kinds of video games are also mature enough to not let it affect their lives in a violent manner. thats what the game ratings are for. younger kids cannot even buy video games which are rated mature because its not meant for them for the simple reason that they are not yet mature enough to accept the content in the game.

Yeah, but the gun helps, doesn't it? Otherwise you'd just be running around shouting "bang!" at everyone.
Seriously though, on the violence thing. There are a lot of studies out there, none of which are anywhere near conclusive.
As a games reviewer, you'd be shocked by the amount of times I speak to parents who willfully let their children play Grand Theft Auto games or even buy it for them. Parents often see games as an easy babysitting tool and then think nothing more of it but, like films or books, parents should be aware of what their kids are playing and whether or not it's appropriate.
The amount of time they allow children to play is also important. Often children who play games excessively may have problems at school such as alienation from their peers or, indeed, from society itself. Games become an escape from these pressures and if a child does show this sort of behaviour, then it's important for parents to confront it head-on before it becomes a bigger problem.

violent video games in actual research help those who are in need relieve such stress related problems in the world. thus only allowing that you as parents see fit for YOUR children to play. i know ALOT of parents that take control of what they play and not play. so really the ratings do help so much - b/c of your out rage and promises to stop violent video games only hurt the community from allowing our choice - dont take that away b/c maybe your kids or someone you know is having problems. thats why we have psychologists and therpy for that sort of nature. Dont ruin it, i mean are you the one to decide the future of video games simply b/c your offended by other parents decisions? violent video games are nothing more than just that - video games - i mean ive seen ppl lose their jobs over playing too much or bringing the video game into their work space b/c of its addicting nature and we dont stop that now do we ? you think your going to make a point by stopping this violent gaming ? theres so much more you could be doing than trying to control all the traffic of incoming videos games so that kids and parents apparently cannot do very well on their own. Every thing in this world will affect "us" as a whole in one way or another it is up to you to decide how to help yourself to it. like the quote says " its not the gun that kills ppl - ppl kill ppl "
