Nintendo's Wii Fit takes its position at the top of the UK All Format Top 40 once again...

Capcom's Resident Evil 5 finally succumbed to the constant demand for Wii Fit as Nintendo's took the top spot in this week's UK Top 40.  A 38% reduction in week-on-week sales saw Resident Evil 5 drop to No.2, while Nintendo's title saw the effects of Easter with a 1% increase in sales.  Intriguingly, although sales of Resident Evil 5 appear to remain strong on the Xbox 360, sales of the PS3 version appear to have dropped off quite significantly.

Elsewhere FIFA 09 benefits from the mid-week internationals jumping up from last week's No.6 to No.3.  Strangely Midway/Ubisoft's Wheelman also appears to be heading in the right direction, from No.11 to No.4 - we're not entirely sure why.

The other stalwart of the charts, Call of Duty: World At War, gains two places up to No.5, seemingly at the cost of Streetfighter IV resurgence which is back down to No.6 from last week's No.3.  Professor Layton and the Curious Village keeps DS gamers intrigued at No.7, while Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare continues its recent resurgence at No.8 form last week's No.9 - seems a teaser trailer for Modern Warfare 2 has been more than beneficial to its predecessor.

Finally, Mario 7 Sonic at the Olympic Games and GTA: Chinatown Wars round off the UK All Format Top 10 at No.9 and No.10 respectively.  Interestingly, when looking at sales by units Rockstar's Chinatown Wars is at No.4, suggesting that it's the combined bulk of multi-format titles that are keeping it at such a lowly place in the All Formats charts.

Last week's new releases failed to make too much of an impact, with Warner Bros. Wanted: Weapons of Fate debuting at No.15.  Microsoft's Ninja Blade on Xbox 360 didn't even make the UK All Format Top 40, quietly taking No.17 in the Xbox 360 sales charts.  Titles that failed to even make their respective format charts include Ubisoft's Tenchu Shadow Assassins, Square-Enix/NiS Disgaea DS, and Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume.

Looking ahead to this week's releases, Chart Attack suggests that only EA's The Godfather II will stand a chance of making an appearance in the Top 10.  Tune in next week to see if we're right.

Sales By Format

Continued convergence of the four main formats highlights the fact that there's plenty of titles on the 360, DS, Wii, and PS3 that people are buying, but very little positives to be gained by the ailing PC, PS2, and PSP formats.

Obviously the significance of digital distribution to the PC is not taken into account by Chart Track's Top 40, and the slide of the PS2 is understandable, but what can possibly turn around the PSP's fortunes after last week's brief appearance of a title in the Top 40.  Bonus points for anybody who can remember which PSP title became the first title of the year to feature in the charts.
