The Mummy Returns
Based on the blockbuster new action movie, which is soon to hit Europe, Universal are getting ready to unleash their deadly game on PlayStation 2.
I was a big fan of the original film, and as soon as the sequel hits our cinemaās Iām sure I will dash out to see it. However for some reason the idea of a game based on the film doesnāt quite capture my interest. Not unless there is a WWF Smackdown option where you can battle as the Rock (well you never know it might happen).
The Mummy Returns is currently in development for the PlayStation 2 by Blitz Games. Mummy Returns is a third-person perspective action-adventure game, which boasts realtime lighting effects, high-resolution graphics, and a huge set of landscapes to explore, which are based on the movie. The game also offers the player the chance to play as either Rick OāConnell (Brendan Fraser), or the villain, the almighty mummy himself, Imotep.
Players take control of one of two characters, where youāll need to locate weapons, and hit switches to unlock new areas and mysteries. There are over 10 weapons which Rick can use these range from; broad swords, shotguns, and handguns, players can also handle two weapons at once, Lara style.
The other character you can choose Imotep, has a slightly harder learning curve, as you only start of with either a kicking or a punch move. However as you progress through the game as Imotep you will uncover new spells, such as the āsuck life force,ā and āRaise Mummies.ā In each level, Imotep collects jars that contain new spells for him to cast.

The Mummy Returns is due out in October for the PlayStation 2; it will be on DVD format so expect some nice FMV scenes from the film itself. Whilst we donāt have too high expectations for this game, it will be nice to see how itās getting on. It will be on display at E3 this year so we will have a play test soon.
