Links 2001
Links 2001
Microsoft is preparing to release Links 2001, a continuation of their hit golf series, later this October. The new game boasts a brand new rendering engine that allows game images to be shown at a higher 1280x1024 resolution. The five new courses available in addition to the classic St. Andrews course include Aviara, Princeville, Chateau Whistler, Westfields, and Mesa Roja. Also added are new player animations including Sergio Garcia and Annika Sorenstam. Multiplayer online tournaments (called the VGA Tour 2001 ā“ Virtual Golf Association), designed to parallel real golf events, will be staged through Links 2001 to win real money. Online play is quicker in this version as now both players play simultaneously instead of waiting to watch the other person shoot.
Links 2001 also includes the Arnold Palmer Course Designer, a robust editor that will allow you to make your own courses in every bit as much detail as the commercially made courses. The course designer will take quite a bit of time and patience to learn how to use, but once people do, I would expect to see loads of downloadable courses show up on the Internet in no time. This isnāt just piecing together fairway sections, traps, and placing trees. The editor allows you to transform and warp the very terrain mesh at the root of the course.

Working hard or hardly working? Don't let your boss catch you on the virtual links. If you're good at PC golf, keep an eye on this game as you may be able to win some money (with the VGA) from it.
