Legends of Might and Magic Preview
At the moment there are a plenty of team-based multiplayer shooters out on the market, with many more on the way in the not so distant future. Most of these games are either based in the future or in contemporary times, but there are not many based in a fantasyland. This game is challenging that idea and it's looking good.
The multiplayer option in the game allows up to 16 players in an online or network game, this will allow people from all over the world to meet up and shoot the hell into each other.
There are two sides in this game, good and evil, you get the choice when you start the game. There are 3 different character classes on both the good and evil sides. The different character classed have different skills for instance some of them are very good with long range weapons and the others are good with hand to hand combat.
The main difference to most first person shooter games is that the melee weapons have an important part to play, but as with most shooter games the long range weapon is the most widely used.
"Depending on which character class you are you'll have a different range of how much damage the melee weapon does," commented game designer Christian Vanover, "If you're the warrior or paladin class, their ranged weapons aren't going to be as powerful as the other characters. But they have an advantage at the beginning when you can rush someone and hack them up. We've also seen people lay in wait with melee weapons for enemies to get close enough to attack. It really just comes down to style of play." In the right hands, the melee weapons can really do a lot of damage in a very short amount of time.
This doesn't mean that you're going to need to worry about aiming melee weapons and performing special moves however. "You arenāt going to find the melee combat system of a game like Die by the Sword here," Vanover commented. "We wanted to keep it simpler and easier to get into the game for more players and have the fun and fast experience of an action game without having to worry about complicated melee controls."
However most of the weapons in the game have a different range this means that there will be more skill involved in your choice of weapon than other shooters, you have a choice of 18 different weapons so it is likely that there will be a wide use by different classes.
Obtaining new weapons by either buying them at a shop or finding them scattered around the various levels. When ever you die you will automatically lose your purchases from the last game.
When you get the hang of the different character classes things will start to move along in a much more organised manner with people taking a job on their team such as a hitman to take out the other teams best player.
As well as other human players in the game there are also monsters to contend with. This makes the gameplay very interesting and at times very hard. The monsters can be used as a friend at times if you are clever enough to make them follow you back to your enemies base then they will more help you to defeat your foe.
Along side the weapons there are also a number of different spells that can be used to help you out when the going gets tough.
