Warlords Battlecry2 Review

Be part of the magic and mayhem, and rage war on your enemies.

Warlords Battlecry has not set itself an easy target, entering the RTS market is as hard as ever with games such as Read Alert2, Cossacks, Age Of Empire 2, Star Wars Galactic Battle and many more on the market there is already something to suit everyone.

Battlecry 2 to say the least has enough options to keep any gamer going for a long time but the question would have to be are they any good?

In all honesty this games doesnāt offer much that hasnāt already been done in the RTS genre, all of the options are used in advancing your units strength and half way through the game you send a few units to attack and because they are so advanced they destroy the enemies base far to easily. This is the same problem that occurred in many other RTSās such as WarZone 2001, this takes away from what could have been a great RTS.

The best feature for me in this game is the way that you develop your character, and it works in the following way. When you first create your character you have to enter the name and the race that you want him/her to be. There are many races to chose from:

Human
Dwarf
Undead
Barbarian
Minotaur
Orc
High elf
Wood elf
Dark elf
Fey
Dark dwarf
Beamon

Each race has their own level of Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Charisma each attribute effects how good the units of that army will be in each area. For instance the Fey are very intelligent but their strength is the lowest in the game this does not make them a bad choice, the reason for this is that their units are stealthy and not easy to catch where as the dark dwarfs are great fighters but not very intelligent, so they can fight but when they get attacked there is no running away.

After each battle the characters stats are updated and saved so that the next time you return to the game you can use your leader that will have a history. This makes it interesting for network play because if one person plays more than the others then their character will have an advantage, the leader (1 unit) is all that will gaint the advantage. This game will generate a unique following that will play it constantly but in all I donāt think this is going to be one for the mass market.

Each race also has their own units that are unique, this is much the same with any RTS as some of the units are shared with other races.

The visuals in the game are what you would have come to expect form the RTS genre, no ground breaking graphics they have decided to stick to a well used and trusted formula for the genre. Unfortunately this game is just another blip on the RTS radar and is not going to be one of the classics but its your standard run of the mill nothing fancy RTS.
