TVG chats to one of the most infamous movie directors in recent years, the videogame adapting addict, Uwe Boll...

To coincide with the Razzies announcements in which he received a nomination for Worst Director (Alone in the Dark), TVG spoke to infamous 'director' Uwe Boll whose works include the movie adaptations of Bloodrayne and House of the Dead. Currently putting the finishing touches to the movie adaptation of Dungeon Siege, In the name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Story, Boll's next productions include Far Cry and Postal along with the rumoured Metal Gear Solid movie.

His movies are generally panned by both movie critics, movie-goers, and gamers alike, so we thought that we'd give Mr Boll the chance to offer his opinions on his portfolio and the condemnation he and his movies generally receive.

They may not be essay length, but his answers certainly express his thoughts and are (expletive aside) unedited...

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. You've directed a number of films based on videogames including Bloodrayne and the forthcoming Dungeon Siege movie. Which has been your favourite and why?

DUNGEON SIEGE is the biggest and best one

You've something of a reputation amongst gamers for producing adaptations of videogames that differ drastically from the source material. Do you accept that, and if so, why do you make such decisions in your adaptations?

This is bulls***. For example BLOODRAYNE is closer to the game as a lot of other game based movies

One of the games that you're reportedly adapting is CryTek/Ubisoft's Far Cry. Could you tell us how pre-production for the movie is going, and whether it will follow the events of the game or will be a 'prequel'?

It will follow exactly the game. We will shoot in India February/March 2007

Perhaps your closest rival in the movie business is Britain's Paul W. S. Anderson thanks to his adaptations of Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and the forthcoming Castlevania. What do you think of his videogame movies, and what would you have done differently if you'd directed those films instead?

I like Mortal Kombat and also Resident Evil 1.

You're reportedly looking at Metal Gear Solid as a potential production. Is this correct, and have you spoken to anybody at Konami/Kojima Productions about an adaptation?

We have a great script and it is in the hands of Konami

Do you ever think that you or your work will ever be accepted by either movie or videogame fans?

It is already accepted from hundred of million fans worldwide. But this fans are not active in the Internet like the BOLL HATERS

Recent reports in the US have suggested that in the three weeks since it was released, Bloodrayne has generated around $2.4 million, compared to the estimated $50 million it took to produce and market the movie. In short such figures are woeful, can you realistically continue to make films? Why do you think that the film has failed to attract the attention of movie-goers, and do you expect it to do better on release here in Europe?

BLOODRAYNE was 17 Mio. $ to make and 12 Mio. $ to release it in USA. Lets wait what foreign, TV and DVD is doing.

With your apparent interest in producing movie adaptations of videogames, would you ever like consider moving into the videogame industry itself?

Maybe

Do you play videogames, and if so, what has been your favourite in recent years?

Postal , Hitman, Silent Hill, The Suffering

If you won an Oscar for one of your adaptations, what would you say as your acceptance speech?

My account number

TVG would like to thank Uwe Boll for taking the time to answer our questions. We'll have more shortly...
