Tony Hawks Pro Skater Review

This game is simply excellent, and if you're a Nintendo owner without the Playstation version you should definitely own this one.
If you don't already have the Playstation version of this game, and you're a Nintendo 64 owner... BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!!
Playstation gamers have known the greatness of Tony Hawk for some time now, but now Nintendo owners get a treat.
Essentially this is the same game that was released on the Playstation. They've even crammed the soundtrack on the cart, at a lower quality but I'm still suprised they've put this much music data onto a cartridge.
Tony Hawk is one of those games that once you get the hand of it, you'll tap the start button until the game comes back up again. By skating, doing tricks, finding hidden objects, breaking stuff, and other goals you progress through the levels by earning skate videos. Even if after you've completed the goals for the level, there's always those high scores looming over your head for you to beat.
The game doesn't look a whole lot different than its Playstation brother. They've smoothed out the textures a bit, and taken advantage of the N64's memory expansion pack to make the game look cleaner. The game controls just as good as the Playstation version, and if you find yourself crashing a lot it will be your fault not the controller (a good sign of good control).
Tony Hawk Pro Skater also posseses three excellent 2-player modes to make the game last even longer. My favorite is the "Graffiti Mode" where you and the other player claim ramps by doing tricks off them. Do a trick off a ramp and it changes to your color. You can also steal ramps by doing a trick worth more points than the other guy on one of your opponent's ramps.
The other 2-player options are "Trick Attack" and "Horse". Trick Attack is fairly simple in concept, you and your opponent play the game in a fashion similar to the one player game. You'll earn points by succesfully landing tricks, and the one with more points at the end of the round wins. Horse is another fun one, where you take turns trying to beat each others' tricks. They give you just enough time to pull off one trick, then they give your friend a chance to score a bigger trick. This alternates back and forth until one player can't top the previous trick, then that player is awarded a letter in the word "horse". If you spell "horse", you lose.
This game is simply excellent, and if you're a Nintendo owner without the Playstation version you should definately own this one.
