The Warriors - Surviving The Streets Pt.1 Feature

TVG takes a look at what it takes to survive the NYC streets in Rockstar's forthcoming brawler...
Rockstar Games reinvention of the brawler continues as we take a look at some of the options available to the player along with the intuitive squad command system.
Out on the harsh NYC streets, the Warriors need a lot of muscle and plenty of cash to survive; throughout the story players must perform certain gameplay mechanics in order to complete missions and earn enough cash to buy fresh spray paint and health-replenishing Flash.
Each mechanic requires subtle control and precision, whether itās breaking into a shop, stealing car stereoās or mugging a random pedestrian. A context-senstive icon appears over the characterās head whenever an action is available, by quickly engaging the right analogue stick or by controlling the vibration of the pad, players can earn money to purchase weapons, spray paint or Flash.
Letās check out a few of the different types of game mechanics found in The Warriors:
Breaking and Entering/Picking Locks
Breaking and entering naturally requires a rather large object to be thrown through the shopfront window; once inside playerās can use the āMayhemā command (see below) to wreck havoc, commanding your fellow Warriors to smash up everything and steal whatever they can.
Certain shops (presumably with the clever owners) have security gates however; fortunately the Warriors know how to pick a lock, simply line up the three sets of tumblers but get ready to make a quick getaway if the alarm sounds!
Steal Car Stereo
Car radios are visible through car windows, you donāt need an invite simply smash the window and unscrew it from the dashboard; make sure to remove all four screws otherwise somebody will call the cops or take matters into their own hands - probably grasped around a baseball bat!
Mugging/Interrogate
A quick buck can always be made by grabbing a rival gang member or random pedestrian and mugging them for their money. The act requires a careful balance of force and precision, but if they break free make sure to hunt them down before they find the cops.
Running the Gang
Taking control of the Warriors is handled via the War Chief Commands, issuing such actions as scattering away from the police or destroying everything in sight. Command over the Warriors takes on great significance in the game, as many situations require due diligence from every member so that they know what theyāre supposed to do and donāt get busted by the cops.
Each member has a specific role to play; for example, the War Chief (player) will pick a lock and tell the otherās to smash and grab everything by issuing the āMayhemā command. When being chased by the cops, the War Chief can issue the āScatterā command to hide in the shadows until the heat has ided down.
- WRECK āEM ALL:
Attack the nearest enemy or find a weapon and prepare to attack.
- LETāS GO:
Warriors will follow the War Chief.
- WATCH MY BACK:
Warriors will attack anyone fighting the War Chief and defend the turf where they are standing.
- MAYHEM:
Warriors will smash anything and everything in sight (cars, store windows, etc.) and loot valuables from stores. Note: Hidden items may be found in the trunks of certain cars.
- HOLD UP:
The Warriors stand their ground and wait for a command from the War Chief.
- SCATTER:
Warriors split up and look for areas to hide. When being chased by the cops, this command can come in quite handy.
