RPG meet Survival Horror, Survival Horror meet RPG!!!

In reflecting on the years of gaming, one canât help but think of two genres that have definitely been good to the industry. The Final Fantasy laced, Zelda driven, XenoGears stocked RPG genre, as well as the zombie filled, dinosaur packed Survival Horror Genre. While both of these genres borrow elements from one another, it is safe to say that they have never truly crossed pathsâ¦until now that is. You see, the brilliant folks over at Boston based Irrational Games look to put an end to the Industryâs void by creating the first RPSHG (Role Playing Survival Horror Game) and it goes by the name of âThe Lostâ.

Well, now that Iâve got you feeling that âoh so fresh feelingâ lets get down to the whole plot of the game shall we? Basically, The Lost puts you in the position of one Amanda. Now she was a good olâ wholesome southern girl until her daughter up and dies in a freak accident. Well, instead of just mourning her daughters death, Amanda says ânoâ, âIâm gonna make a deal with the Fâin devil, travel into Fâin hell, and get my daughters soul backâ. So leave it to Amanda to carry out her plan, and leave you (the gamer) to play out her epic. Now when I speak of epic, I do mean epic as in big, large, mega, or whatever you want to call it, this will be an epic game. The Lost will have you kidnapping souls through nine levels with each level consisting of five stages. Now Iâm no Jet Propulsion Engineer, but I do believe a game with 45 stages will lead to some massive playtime.

As with any game particularly in this genre, the gameplay will have to be great and stand out in order for it to succeed. Luckily this game seems to be all about gameplay. Our beloved Amanda will have to travel through these 9 levels of hell, but she wonât be doing it in her human form. During her journey through the depths of hell (weâve all been there), she runs across three souls who really want to get out of hell, and agree to help Amanda in exchange for a first class ticket out of there. The three souls she encounters allow her to be (with the help of âmanaâ) a total of four different people (or lack there of). Basically she will have and earn points that will allow her to change into the spirits of Shadow, Instinct, Corruption, or just regular olâ Amanda. Each of these spirits will have different advantages, and help Amanda to defeat hells demons, as well as advance through different levels.

As this game is in itâs later stages, the games graphics look rather stunning. The characters are modeled beautifully, and the environments give the game a horror movie look and feel.
