Super Smash Bros Melee Preview

Mario and chums never looked so good.
Super Smash Bros., the smash hit for the N64 from Nintendo, returns in a new dazzling form for Nintendo GameCube called Super Smash Bros. Melee. Up to four players can enter the brawl, commanding their favourite Nintendo characters and using lots of new moves. The E3 version of Super Smash Bros. Melee features the return of many familiar fighters, such as Mario, DK, Link, Yoshi, Ness, and Pikachu, and introduces new characters, too. There are new powerful items, new modes for rookies and veterans, tournaments for up to 64 players, new fight stages, new camera controls and an option to take snapshots that you can review.
Players will feast on cinematic introductions, a new one-player mode, rules that can be bent, battered and broken and even several mystery modes, such as the Homerun Contest. Lucky show attendees have been able to experience the fun of Super Smash Bros. Melee the best way possible: by bringing along a friend and going head-to-head. It's crazy and challenging at the same time.
Super Smash Bros Melee was probably the most complete GameCube game at E3, and was quite easily the most popular game on Nintendo's stand. However the game received mixed opinions, casual gamers seamed to enjoy the bright colourful characters, whilst avid fans of the Nintendo 64 version seamed less impressed. The main difference is the size of the game, whilst the characters have increased in size the levels have shrunk. This was the main source of criticism about the game.
The stages in which you fight are taken from various scenes in other Nintendo games, for example one stage saw us fighting in the Pokemon Stadium. The backgrounds are well detailed but still remain un-attached to the fighting arena, this allows the developers to increase the amount of polygons used on the game characters, and once you see them up-close you can see where theyâve gone.
To increase the action throughout the game there are randomly generated power-ups put it at various stages of the fight. One power-up that appeared quite frequently was the F-Zero cars; once the power-up was activated hundreds of F-Zero cars zoomed across the screen taking down any players in their way. The action is certainly manic at certain points throughout the game.
