Snood Review

Snood is a new puzzle title for the GBA, but is it any good???

Apparently Snood is a bit of a cult phenomenon, from what I can gather itās a basic rip off of Bubble Bobble and other games of that ilk.

A predetermined setup of Snoods greets you at every level, you have to shoot up Snoods of similar colour to get rid off them, vanquish the level of all of the Snoods and itās on to the next and incrementally more difficult level⦠Yes I was right this is Bubble Bobble, but what I canāt understand is why the original creator of this type of game didnāt get a patent on it, he, she would have made a mint!!!

There are several game modes on offer, albeit rather generic ones that are not anything to get particularly excited about. First off is the Journey mode that takes you through a series of games working up the difficulty level. Next is the self explanatory Time Attack mode, whereby you have a certain time limit to complete each level. And lastly is the Puzzle mode, where you have to play 50 preset levels of increasing difficulty, each level must be completed with a limited number of Snoods that are available to you bringing in a much needed sense of tactics and strategy, the games saving grace.

Multiplayer fun is also catered for in the form of a two-player mode, however both players will need a Snood cartridge. This highlights two questions, why only two when four would be better, and why when weāve recently had the sublime Chu Chu Rocket and Columns Crown using only one cartridge for multiplayer does this weaker effort require two???

Visually the game is unremarkable; there is very little personality in the Snoods, which might have added some much-needed humour to the game. Although considering the titchy sprites this may have posed a problem, as they already cause unneeded frustration to the game, as itās difficult to differentiate between the different Snoods, playing under extreme lighting is a necessity.
