Konami take their hit arcade title to the next-gen machines.

Silent Scope might just show up on our āGamingās Guilty Pleasuresā feature in the near feature. As an arcade game, this was an impressive sight. You assume the role of a police sniper as you aim to take out the crooks, looking through this awesome little night scope (with its own small screen) on the arcade gun. Bonus points are even given for headshots. Unfortunately, the sniper hardware will not be coming with the home versions of the game, but it still looks to please.

The theme of the arcade game was to snipe in on your enemies with expert precision. As an arcade game, Silent Scope was extremely fun and very playable. It remains to be seen how the game translates without the arcade scope. Historically, arcade games have not always translated well to the home consoles because of their relatively short length. We expect Konami will add additional levels or play modes to keep the home players interested longer.

Like the arcade, the home versions will feature 3 main game modes: Story Mode, Shooting Range Mode, and a Time Attack mode. In the story mode, you will play in several different locales including a downtown area, a stadium, a highway, a night vision level, and a final boss. The shooting range mode tests your reflexes on indoor targets on a series of dummy targets. In Time Attack, you will be given a certain amount of time to clear a certain amount of targets.

Instead of looking through a gun, you will be guiding a round cursor around the screen that represents your scope. The graphics on both the PlayStation2 and Dreamcast versions look to represent the arcade visuals quite well. It looks as if the graphics have not been enhanced much on either version but they still look just as good as they did in the arcade.

We expect the home version to sound as good as the arcade version, complete with the music, voices, gunshots, and the obligatory over-excited announcer.

>As soon as we get complete versions of both the Dreamcast and PlayStation2 versions of Konamiās Silent Scope, TVG will bring you a full review. However at this stage we can tell they we are certainly in for a treat.
