Scooby Doo is back this time on Playstation2...
With the feature-length film coming out this summer, it made sense for THQ to release a Scooby Doo game to coincide with it, should be money in the bank. However this latest Scooby game, appearing on both the PS2 and GameCube isnāt based on the upcoming movie, instead itās an original story being developed by Heavy Iron Studios, they of Evil Dead infamy.
You take on the role of Scooby who has found all of his chums kidnapped by an evil yet mysterious mastermind. Itās up to Scoobs to rescue the rest of the gang, whilst picking up a few Scooby Snacks along the way.
Scooby Doo is a traditional 3D platformer, the game takes place over 12 levels all based on four different worlds from the cartoon, including a creepy mansion, a spooky cave and a ghostly graveyard. Of course it wouldnāt be a Scooby game without a bunch of monsters to scare the living daylights out of Scoob, over 20 monsters from the series are set to feature and will be voiced by the likes of Don Knotts, Tim Conway and Tim Curry, top stuff.
Before you go dismissing this as a kiddie title, Heavy Iron Studios are keen to make this appeal on different levels. To this end, special bonuses, power-ups and Scooby Snacks are cleverly hidden throughout the levels, collecting them will open up hidden areas and special DVD bonuses for the more advanced players.
Initial reports are that Scooby is a very impressive title, if slightly traditional. Controls are tight, whilst the visuals do a great job of recreating the humour and style found in the cartoons. Iron Studios have created a separate engine that handles Scoobyās face and head, which enables the animators to create some fantastic expressions on Scoobās face.
