Code Veronica returns this time on PlayStation 2.

Five years after publishing the first Resident Evil title, Capcom are set to release, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X an enhanced version of the chart-topping Sega Dreamcast⢠blockbuster, Resident Evil Code: Veronica designed by award-winning Capcom Executive Producer, Shinji Mikami.

The Resident Evil franchise is certainly a worthwhile game for any company. The entire blockbuster, multi-platform Resident Evil series has sold more than 18 million units worldwide making the franchise worth more than $600 million. So porting a version of Code Veronica to the PlayStation 2 is certainly a good move by Capcom and Sony.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for Europe, headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation, in search of her brother Chris and to solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporationās secretive activities. In her search she is captured and sent to an isolated prison on a desolate Island. While it remains unexplained how Chris, one of the original S.T.A.R.S. team members, appears in Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, players will be reacquainted with his iron will and munitions expertise to seek the truth behind the dreaded Umbrella biotoxins.

In Resident Evil Code: Veronica X players control Claire at the beginning of the game and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to stop Umbrellaās devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (R.W.S.). Now when Claire opens doors, solves puzzles, stores items or ammunition, they remain in the same spot when playing the second half of the game as Chris.

Code Veronica is easily the best Resident Evil game to date, the action is fast and furious and the visuals still manage to amaze. Capcom havenāt exactly improved the visuals for the PS2 version in some ways itās slightly worse in terms of texture detail. However there have been some improvements to the lighting effects, especially the scenes where there is lightning flashing through windows and cracks.

So if the graphics havenāt been improved what has?
The story line has been improved for PS2 owners, with more information about Albert Wesker, the Mr Bad Guy from the very first Resident Evil. Wesker returns in Code Veronica meaner than ever complete with glowing eyes and super fast movement. Without giving too much away Capcom have used Coder Veronica X to explain in more detail what happened before the first game and how Wesker appeared on the scene. It makes for a nice surprise and if youāve played the Dreamcast version it is still worth playing to see the new cut scenes with Wesker. He really is one hard case.

Capcom have also used this title to bundle a complete playable demo of Devil May Cry, Capcom latest survival horror that is looking fantastic.
