Oh yes, the move to Gamecube has been a good one.
Resident Evil Zero a game once destined for the Nintendo 64 has switched to the next-generation Nintendo machine, the Gamecube. Several months after Nintendo officially announced the Gamecube, Capcom formally announced the game had been transferred onto the Gamecube. Apparently the game was thought to have been switched over to Gamecube as long ago as May 2000.
Resident Evil Zero begins in July 1998, one day before the events in Resident Evil, following a bizarre succession of murders in the Aklay Mountains located just outside the small mid-western town of Raccoon City. Because of the unusual nature of the murders, the Raccoon City Police Department sends six members of the elite S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Squad) Bravo Team including Rebecca, a young women on her first mission, to investigate. As the team sets out in their helicopter, they spot a mysterious train stopped in the woods. Then suddenly, for some unknown reason the engine in the chopper stalls. As the chopper begins to fall into the woods the team sees a burning wagon in the distance. After the crash, the team decides to split up to investigate the two sightings. One team sets out to investigate the wagon and the other team, including Rebecca, to investigate the train. As Rebecca enters the mysterious train, the horror and the battle to survive Resident Evil Zero begins.
Resident Evil Zero introduces a special enhancement to its Realtime Zap System that allows players to switch between the two characters at any time. The characters can be in the same place or move separately and players may need to switch between characters to keep both of them alive. In Resident Evil Zero, enemies can attack one character while the player is controlling the other character. If one characters dies, the game is over.
In an interview with Todd Thorson, directed of marketing for Capcom he talked abut Resident Evil for the 64, "Resident Evil Zero is the prequel that fans have been waiting for," says Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "Players will delight in this all new adventure as they discover the secrets of how the events in Raccoon City all began. The ability to play as two different characters coupled with Capcomâs signature gameplay and storylines is sure to keep Nintendo 64 ownersâ eyes glued to the television, waiting to see what will happen next. This title also marks the first time an original Resident Evil game has come to the Nintendo 64. Believe me, it was worth the wait!"
Unfortunately there is very little information about this game at the moment, all we know is what we did when it was in development for the Nintendo 64. We believe that Capcom will keep the storyline they had planned for the 64 version, and simply port the game to the Gamecube, obviously with a whole new game engine and graphics. Reports are suggesting that Resident Evil Zero will be the biggest graphical leap in the whole of the series, if you thought Code Veronica was fantastic, just think what the Gamecube version will look like. E3 2001 will be a great week for Resident Evil fans, as Capcom will officially reveal Resident Evil Zero on the Gamecube, itâs unconfirmed whether the game will be on demo or just as a display, but anything will do, we just want to see what it looks like.
Comments
Resident Evil Zero is set to be an exclusive title on the Gamecube, it is also reported to be one of the launch titles for Nintendoâs Gamecube, which should hit Japan sometime in September. If Capcom gets this right it could quite easily be the greatest Resident Evil game of all time. Fans of the series will finally be able to answer those important questions regarding the Umbrella Corporation and how it all started.
