Red Faction is shaping up to be the greatest first person shooter we've ever seen (!)

Well, I think Volition has done it. They are giving FPS lovers what they always wanted, the ability to blow ANYTHING to pieces. This inludes taking out huge chunks of walls, and destroying buildings and so forth, but that isn't the only reason this game is so cool, but this game is promising to have some of the best AI yet in this genre. Additional features such as a great physics engine, controllable vehicles, amazing graphics, and a variety of unique natural environments promise to make Red Faction one of the most sophisticated and innovative entries ever in the action/FPS genre.

Red Faction is promising the best gameplay ever in a FPS, thanks to the Geo-mod engine, (Geometric Modification) which will allow gamers to literally destory anything in there path, or put holes in it, knock it over, shove it in one direction or another, or perhaps even carve your initials in it. Nearly every feature of the Red Faction world can take on the effects of damage in real time. Also hiding behind walls or pillars is no longer a perfect defense, you can just bust out your rocket launcher and blow away the wall or pillar, and then take out the opponent. This new feature will be a key aspect in the game, you may need to push a crate somewhere to use it as a step to get to a high ledge, in one demonstration, you have to change the path of a lava flow by blocking one channel and creating a new one.

Red Faction has been delivering some of the best eye candy we've seen on the Playstation 2. High-resolution graphics while running at a smooth 60fps should help out out with the anti-aliasing, and the environments are all remarkably detailed and lifelike, this has to be the best yet in a FPS.

We haven't heard much of the sound from Red Faction yet, but again Volition is promising very good sound and music, and they had better deliver, why go all the way on graphics and gameplay, and then slouch on the sound?

Red Faction is shaping up to be the greatest first person shooter we've ever seen, and the Geo-Mod engine is what we've been wanting in a FPS for quite some time now, definitely keep an eye on TVG for the latest developments on Red Faction.
