TVG gets the details on the next installment in the popular counter-terrorism series...
Rainbow Six 3 has proved to be one of the most successful title on Xbox Live!, and is still played in its thousands today; but RS fanboys can now start the countdown to the release of the next instalment of the Tom Clancy FPS franchise, as Ubisoft confirm that Rainbow Six 4 will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation2 and PC in Spring 2005.
Currently in development at Red Storm Entertainment and UbiSoft Montreal, Rainbow Six 4 promises to push the franchise to new limits; implementing Rag-Doll physics and improved enemy AI to project greater realism, ātension-buildingā sound effects, and specialist operatives who will help you complete your objectives.
In charge of the Playstation2 version, Red Storm Entertainment promises a specifically designed graphics engine to reach unprecedented standards in visual and technical achievements.
Rainbox Six 4 continues the trend set down by Ghost Recon 2, offering Playstation2 and Xbox owners a vastly different experience. The game will push the series further online, with PS2 owners able to able to play in a new Rivalry Mode, which will see gamers pit their skill against Mercenaries; whilst Xbox Live! gamers will have access to a very exciting sounding Career Mode, where they will be able to create their own operative, and build his skills as the game progresses. RS3 fans will be pleased to know however that both versions will feature the traditional Adversarial and Co-Operative modes alongside the new introductions.
The game also promises to have a much darker storyline that will capture the imagination of fans of the original title and then some. Called into action within unfamiliar territory to combat a bio-terrorist threat, stakes escalate as Team Rainbow comes under personal attack by a terrorist organisation. Having become accustomed to saving other peopleās lives, the roles change round when Team Rainbow loses one of its own operatives and must do anything to bring him back alive.
Once again you take the role of Ding Chavez, the fearless leader of Team Rainbow; however starring alongside as a playable character is Dieter Weber, a trained sniper who must cover his teamās movements with deadly accuracy.
In addition the game promises a selection of new operatives, including Recon, Electronics and Demolitions experts, to enhance the nature of the squad based gameplay as you take control of a squad of four into extremely hostile locations.
As you can see from the accompanying teaser trailer and the screens that Ubisoft have released, RS4 should shape up to be a very exciting FPS and we couldnāt think of anyone better to bring a fresh experience to the genre and online gaming.
