Capcom deliver yet another startling reminder to the industry about originality & innovation...
Having made a host of Viewtiful Joe announcements, Capcom also took the opportunity to announce an entirely new title.
Currently in development at Clover Studios and under the guidance of Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya, Okami is designed exclusively for the Playstation2.
In yet another startling reminder of the creative originality championed at Capcom, Okami is dubbed a āNature Adventureā and sees players taking the role of Amaterasu, the mythical sun god in its earthly form of a Wolf.
Depicting a stark world devoid of colour (with colour representing the life blood of the land), itās up to the player to return it to its natural state; with players having to take on supernatural monsters that are literally sucking the life out of the land.
As a deity, Amaterasuās power is in parts derived from humans believing, and this is accomplished in two ways during the game ā“ by bringing colour and life back to the world and by listening to the wishes of the people and fulfilling their desires. The more faith people have in you, the stronger Amaterasu becomes, making it easier to defeat the supernatural monsters.
As you can see from the breathtaking screens, Okami utilises a visual style based on traditional Japanese art; although weāve yet to see the game in action, the effect is quite simply unbelievable, creating a style akin to the lost art of delicate calligraphy and pen work on paper - you can even make out the grain of paper in the background, quite simply this is a visual style as impressive as the first time you laid eyes upon the likes of Jet Set Radio or Viewtiful Joe.
Sadly thatās about all we know at present; so take a look at the screens and marvel until we can bring you further information.
