Imagine a world populated with creatures from Abeâs games in fully 3D forms each with their own motivation to live and die. Oddworld Inhabitants have been working on a game, which will bring us so close to living in a fantasy world.
Munchâs Oddysee is the third instalment in a series of games from Oddworld Inhabitants; the first two games saw Abe as the main character, which was presented in the 2D World with a simple yet addictive style of gameplay. Munchâs Oddysee represents a total change from 2D to 3D. There is also a switch from puzzle-orientated gameplay to an entire open-ended 3D world inhabited with thousands of different species, each with their very own unique Artificial Intelligence only available on PlayStation 2.
In an Interview with Oddworld Inhabitants Lorne Lanning quoted: âWeâve allowed more onscreen characters, more elaborate behaviours and larger worlds with more AL running underneath. In Short PlayStation 2 allows us to completely rethink how a game should be built, how it should look and how it should be played.
The game has been in development since late 1998, Abe the key character from the first two games is retained he rescues Munch, the last surviving Gabbit, from a Glukkon medical research facility. The Gabbits have mostly been wiped out as they have been used as spare transplant parts for Glukkons. Abe is able to possess living beings, whilst Munch using his serial port on the back of his neck, is able to possess mechanical objects.
Lanning then went on to say: âWe are working on a system that helps the gameâs inhabitants identify where they are in the environment and also recognise what items of interest might be nearby. Picking up an item should be as fluid as it used to be in 2D. We expect that once people start playing, they will find themselves getting interested in going off on their own and just treating the world like itâs a terrarium full of living creatures. People will want to nurture some things or levels for a long time, possibly days or weeks.â
Munchâs Oddysee is already at this early stage of development looking to be a great leap in gaming technology, not only in graphics but various other division including A.I. Gamers will be able to start up and take control of a computer living Creature carrying out day to day activities in a fun adventure set straight from the creatures imagination.
Expect an Autumn Release in the year 2001.
