We look at some of the cars from Rockstar’s latest title in the Midnight Club franchise...
Further to our preview of the Career Mode in Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition a couple of weeks ago, Rockstar have today unveiled new information about some of the cars that youāll be able to get your hands on within the game. First up, the Tuner Class and the Sedan Class
Tuners
Lexus IS300
Price: $29,980
Targeted toward the technically astute who love to drive, the Lexus IS300 offers a sporty balance of ride, handling, power, brakes, comfort and price. Standing apart from the rest of the Lexus line both inside and out, the IS300 manages to look smooth and sophisticated while giving performance that is fast and aggressive. For street racers in particular, its inline 6 cylinder engine combined with its rear-wheel drive layout gives it the ability to swerve around corners better than its front-wheel drive tuner counterparts. In keeping with its pedigree of class, modifications done to IS300s are normally more subdued than the rest of the tuner class. A good paint job, a new set of rims and perhaps a spoiler are all thatās needed to make this beauty look its best.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII
Price: $29,999
Developed in competition on the planetās most unforgiving terrain by the worldās most demanding drivers, the Lancer Evolution VIII is the street legal version of the Mitsubishi racing car that won countless rally championship victories over the last decade. This yearās model has an improved 4-wheel drive system to provide outstanding traction, and a newly engineered wheel differential design to evenly distribute the engineās enormous power. Like its rally counterpart, the Lancer Evolution is able to handle well in all weather conditions and on all terrains at competitive speeds. Body modifications for the Lancer usually forgo the carās rally history, bringing front, back, and side parts low to the ground. Hoods with large air intakes are also popular to keep the engine temperature down.
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Price: $21,200
Launching in 2000 the Mitsubishi Eclipse made an immediate impact with its muscular good looks and affordable price tag. The car packs enough visual aggression to take on all of its competitors combined with its solid-looking side streaks, jewelled lights, and low roofline. Modifications to the body keep its racing lines intact, with new side panels, a spoiler, and a slightly altered hood being the most popular. Beneath the skin, the Eclipse is also a serious performer with near-perfect weight distribution allowing it to smoothly slide around almost any corner.
Nissan 350Z
Price: $34,666
Nissanās Z series debuted in 1970, offering good performance and simple driving pleasure at an affordable price. The most highly evolved in the series, the 350Z is one of only a few sports cars under $100,000 that can give you the kind of rush usually associated with performance leaders. The three aspects of the 350Z that really stand out when compared with its competitors are its powerful long-legged V-6 engine, its super tight body, and its road-hugging handling. Its long history gives it a huge selection of after market body modifications to select from. So much so that a new hood, front and back bumper, spoiler, and side kit can make one 350Z look entirely apart from another. Dollar for dollar, the 350Z is an all around sharp performer thatās hard not to love.
Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-spec
Price: $41,500
The first GT-R was constructed by Nissan in 1989 to compete in the Japan Touring Car Group A racing series, and proved to be a smashing success. Undefeated in its first season, and winner of the championship for four years running, the Nissan Skyline soon became such an intimidating racing force that it had to be given its own racing series. Given this pedigree, itās easy to see why the Skyline is at the top of the tuner class, and a car that any street racer would love to get behind the wheel of. Since much of its performance is ties to its body design, often few exterior parts are swapped out on the Skyline. The car itself with new paint and rims is intimidating enough on the starting line.
Toyota Supra
Price: $37,975
The Toyota Supra has a long history as a classy and fun ride, and it has been impressing its owners since its introduction. With a huge rear spoiler and smooth, curvy lines, the current model can turn heads even before any body work is done ā“ but theyād better look fast because its twin turbo engine gives it an outrageous acceleration. The Supraās popularity also gives it an unparalleled amount of aftermarket modification parts, guaranteeing that its look will fit the driverās personality. With the options available, resisting the temptation to alter the hood, front and side panels is practically irresistible.
Volkswagen Jetta
Price: $21,350
The Jetta is Volkswagenās best selling line, and for good reason. Refined styling and nimble handling are combined with a turbo-charged engine for good all-round performance, all at a price that is within the reach of almost anyone. Although designed as a family car with a top-quality safety record, the Jetta should not be underestimated on the streets. Especially after some upgrades under the hood, the Jetta is more than capable of crossing the finish line ahead of the pack. On the exterior, the Jetta manages to maintain its basic appearance no matter the body modifications put into it. Yet this doesnāt stop racers from making their Jetta unique with wild paint jobs, intimidating front bumpers and sleek spoilers.
Luxury Sedans
Cadillac CTS-V
Price: $54,495
The 5.7 litre, V-8 CTS-V represents the best of what Cadillac has to offer in terms of luxury performance. Much more than just a powerful engine, the CTS-V is equipped with a standard six-speed transmission, large performance brakes at all four corners, 18-inch wheels and tires, retuned shock absorbers and steering, and a host of interior and exterior styling refinements that youād expect from a Luxury Sedan. Possessing an unmatched look of style, those putting modifications on the CTS-V rarely change it so much that itās appearance becomes drastically different. Rims and paint are all that is required to turn heads while driving this sedan.
Chrysler 300c
Price: $32,995
The Chrysler 300 series was first introduced at the 2003 New York International Auto Show and became commercially available in early 2004. One of the first large, affordable American sedans, the 300 series has become a huge success. With a base model available at less than $25k, the series offers stylish, high performance vehicles perfectly capable of taking 22ās with ease. With a 5.7 litre V-8 Hemi under the hood, the top of the line300c rates 340 hp at 5000 rpm. An honourable addition to the famed Chrysler letter series, the 300c has been awarded numerous automotive awards for its combination of style and performance. Highly popular in the modification scene, an untouched 300c is practically an abomination. Putting in a new front grill and a high-end set of rims is near mandatory, as-is a front bumper and new set of tires to match the former.
Lexus SC430
Price: $63,500
In spite of its luxurious overtones, the SC430 delivers motor performance that actually exceeds expectation. With rear-wheel drive and a 4.3-liter V-8 that puts out 300-horsepower, it can run with the Mercedes SL 500 and Jaguar XK8. It's stable at high speeds and, though soft, its suspension is well controlled on winding roads and on city streets. The SC430ās sporty look is maintained through modification, with an intake hood and a high spoiler often added.
Lexus GS430
Price: $48,600
The GS 430 is an exciting sports sedan with a 300-horsepower V-8 engine. The sleek shape of the GS is further streamlined by its aerodynamic underbody that uses flat components to help reduce air resistance. This unique design allows for many body modifications without compromising speed. With a new front end, spoiler and side panels, an almost tuner look can be achieved. Combining luxury and performance in a roomy luxury sedan, it offers Lexus quality, excellent ergonomics, and a smooth ride at an affordable price.
Mercedes CL500
Price: $94,000
Designed with a unique pillarless design to achieve an open, flowing feel, the CL500 combines the first 7-speed automatic transmission with a 302 hp V-8 engine. In its 13 year history, the CL500 has become known as a car with solid construction, uncompromising luxury, and the perfect balance of speed and strength. Few full production cars have such a high starting sticker price, but with the CL500 you indeed get what you pay for. Modification parts for this car are equally expensive, but well worth it for those seeking a distinctive look. A lowered body against chrome rims and a new front grill can make this vehicle into a masterpiece.
Volkswagen Phaeton
Price: $97,233
The Phaeton represents Volkswagenās first foray into the luxury car marketplace, and it is an impressive opening salvo indeed. Designed for those that wear their designer labels on the inside of their clothing, the Phaeton sports a V-12 engine and a high level of interior opulence for the same price as many other V-8 luxury sedans. The Phaeton also puts much of the design into the hands of its owners, offering the most factory body and interior options amongst this class. Its exterior can be made stunning with a gloss paint job, new rims, and chrome trim and exhaust. If desired, adding a spoiler and switching out the back and front bumpers can give an almost rally car appearance.
