RockStar shows of the Career Mode, plenty of movies/screens inside...
RockStar Games today sent along a wealth of information, screens and video footage from its forthcoming Playstation2/Xbox title, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.
Lying at the heart of the game is the Career mode, with players hitting the streets of San Diego after purchasing their first set of wheels. Whilst cruising the streets youâve got to be aware of other racers looking for a challenge, while keeping an eye out for the various events that are littered throughout each of the three cities.
Winning races earns you money, which can then be used back at the Garage to purchase new vehicles, performance upgrades and body modifications along with unlocking new races, vehicles, aftermarket parts, special moves and cities to explore.
The game begins inside a local San Diego Garage named Six One Nine Customs, and after a conversation with Oscar, the head mechanic, youâre given a measly $22,000 to purchase your first vehicle from the likes of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Gold R32, Dodge Neon SRT 4, 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo or the 1964 Chevy Impala.
Opting for a few test-drives to ensure you donât start off on the wrong foot, once youâve made your purchase youâll have a little left over to spend on a few modifications, from a range of low-cost options such as body kits, spoilers and hoods.
After your brief entrance into the world of car modifications itâs time to race, although the beginning contest is taken as more of a tutorial then a fully fledged competition.
In between races and modifying your wheels, the game enters into âCruise Modeâ, which does pretty much as it says on the tin, allowing you to take your time, discover short-cuts learn the intricacies of the streets and keep an eye out for any other racers or events.
The Career mode includes a wide range of different race types to the player, including:
City Races: These single heat competitions are shown as red circles on the city map, are open to all car classes, and are the most common type of race to be found. Completing these unlocks additional, more challenging City Races with bigger cash payouts â“ making these the best way to earn some quick funds to bring back to the garage.
Street Racers: As the name implies, these races are against other street racers willing to put their reputation on the line. Represented by blue arrows on the map, Street Racers are challenged by flashing high beams when their path is crossed, and then speeding to the starting point where the full entourage of challengers await. Always consisting of multiple runs, players have to finish first in each heat to advance to the next leg. The payout against Street Racers is comparatively low, but the fact that winning these unlocks new aftermarket parts in the garage and Club Races to compete in make taking part in them essential.
Club Races: These races are open to specific car classes, and the appropriate open Club Races will only be represented by gold stars on the map if youâre driving the correct type of vehicle. Winning Club Races unlocks performance and appearance upgrades specific to the car class being driven. More importantly, winning enough of these races will unlock the special ability for your vehicle.
Tournaments: These multi-race competitions are the rarest and most challenging of the bunch, and are shown as trophy icons on the city map. Normally consisting of four races, a playerâs place in each leg will score them between 1 and 10 points. The total score at the end of all the races determines the winner. Taking first place in a Tournament can prove difficult, but the reward for victory makes the win all the sweeter. Winning will unlock a new vehicle, and said ride will be placed in the playerâs garage free of charge!
Youâre entirely free throughout the entire game to go at it as you please and are never forced to enter specific races, however the secret to unlocking the wealth of content lurking with Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is to take part in as many races/events as possible.
Though there are no hard and fast rules to how things get unlocked, generally the type of challenge youâre involved with will tell you what waits in the victorâs circle. Defeating Street Racers unlocks more races to take part in, and rims and vinyls for all vehicles. Club Races are the secret to opening up vehicle special moves and parts specific to the vehicle class that the race is open to. Winning Tournaments makes more vehicles available, as well as more badge and decal options.
