Mega Man Legends 2 Review

Take a look at this action RPG Megaman spin-off FROM Capcom.
Megaman Legends started out as a little spin off from the main Megaman franchise, that did rather well and it resulted in itās own spin off called The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Now Capcom is back with a fully-fledged sequel to their first 3D Megaman action RPG game.
Initially Megaman Legends 2 seems a little lighthearted; the bright vibrant graphics make them seem a little cutesy as they give a definite anime style to the proceedings. Generally things are not too serious, but there are some more sombre undertones to events adding a bit of depth to the plot. The actual plot itself is rather standard RPG fare; a legendary treasure and a girl have been found in a remote part of the land. This treasure is in fact a key called the Sealed Key ā“ they must have sealed it for a reason ā“ which unlocks the Great Legacy. All sounds pretty ominous and it ends up dragging Megaman and his companions into the thick of things.
The game utilises an over the shoulder camera rather like that in Zelda, this works well, giving you a good view of the action as you travel through towns and in dungeons. It utilises a lock on feature, which allows you to target enemies whilst strafing and blasting them. This has been improved over the first Megaman Legends game and works rather well although sometimes it can select an enemy it rather didnāt. What is rather nice about the control system is the dual analogue option whereby the left analogue stick controls your movement and the right allows you to aim. This gives a rather large amount of freedom for moving and aiming, which can be handy in the heat of combat.
Graphically things are pretty good, the game has taken a while to make it over here from America, getting released there in October 2000, so it looks a tad dated, especially compared to next generation games. However the graphics engine is solid and the cartoon style works well and immerses you in the game world, despite the now obvious limitations of the PlayStation hardware. Facial expressions and good animation on the characters as well as nice spot effects go some way to increasing the graphical impact this title has. However it is not cutting edge, if you were expecting it to be so, then youāre looking in the wrong place.
