Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence finally reveals its online details as Leipzig gets into full swing..

Although itâs been a known aspect of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for some time, Konami of Europe and the father of MGS, Hideo Kojima, have taken the opportunity of Leipzigâs Game Conference to unveil the online options available to gamers when the title is released on PlayStation2 in 2006.

The release of Subsistence will mark the first time that the classic series has headed online, making use of the PlayStation2âs network adaptor. Up to eight players will be able to battle it out across several gamemodes and maps that take in some of the key locations of Snake Eater. As youâd expect from an online action title âDeath Matchâ and âTeam Death Matchâ will be two of the modes along with the more Metal Gear-esque 'Sneaking Missions', 'Capture Missions', and 'Rescue Missions'.

Besides the use of established locations for the online modes, Subsistence will also feature brand new maps including Small Forest, the Kill House and the Abolition Factory â“ Konami havenât disclosed how many new maps there will eventually be on the gameâs release next year. Each of the players will be able to choose an allegiance to either the GRU, KGB or Ocelot Unit with those with high stats able to control major characters such as Ocelotâ¦Weapons for the modes will be taken directly from the single-player game, and the online gameplay also allows for players to utilise MGS3âs Close Quarters Combat (CQC) manoeuvres on opponents.

MGS3: Subsistence will also feature additional features to expand upon the experience of Snake Eater including a new camera system that will be utilised fully in Metal Gear Solid 4, and the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 from the late 1980s.

"Finally it is possible to battle with players from around the world online at Metal Gear Solid from the comfort of your own home," said Hideo Kojima. "For the online mode, the essence of Metal Gear Solid is retained, with additions of various online rules and original stages. With the continued growth of the culture of Metal Gear Solid, this new online addition, I believe will bring a new way to enjoy and experience the world. I hope fans will look forward to experiencing it."

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence will be released on PlayStation2 in 2006, weâll have more on the title shortlyâ¦
