Fans of war strategy games will love Kessen...
At the PlayStation 2000 Festival Kessen pulled in a huge number of passing visitors, and to no surprise. With over 250 characters on screen battling it out on foot and horseback, what else could PS2 punters ask for?
The first time you see Kessen it will be a very special moment, with break taking graphics and the shear number of polygons on screen, it will leave you wondering how the PlayStation 2 copes. Once the sim side sinks in you may find yourself droping the pad and walking away as the graphics are overun by menus and historical information. Interesting!
Much of the game is spent in top down views looking over your armies, during this time decision are made on what your troops will do on their next move. Once your opponents have sent their commands in, the view changes to cut scenes showing you the action from the fighters views. For example you may decide to instruct your soldiers to charge an attack, or order your archers to fire on charging horses. There is quite a range of options and attacks, which is nice to see and essential.
Whilst your army is fighting there is two gauges which show how many troops are left on each side, as the war continues the number increases drastically until you or them have none left and the game is either won or lost. Once you hit the single digit numbers you know you're in trouble.
Fans of war strategy games will love Kessen, it is totally ingrosseing and will have you playing for ages, however newbies may find the stratgery just a little too hard to understand and will be left just watching the cut scenes.
