We get to grips with JOYTECH's latest weapon in their ongoing peripheral war!
Welcome back loyal TVG readers to this months in depth look at the latest fresh and funky peripheral to emerge from those ever so slightly mad offices at JOYTECH H.Q! Now as regular readers are no doubt aware the entire TVG crew have just returned from the three day gaming marathon that was E3. Truly it was a 72 hour gaming orgy, that simply refused to quit. In fact, I would go as far as saying that at times it almost becomes a little too much! All of the big boys in gaming were constantly tripping over themselves to better each others stand, and at points, one could quite easily become overwhelmed... Like a small child on an extreme sherbet fuelled sugar rush, there we were in the middle of the South Hall, frothing at the mouth from too much Double Dash, and Half Life 2! We needed a break, we needed a diversion, we needed something, ANYTHING to release us from the non stop gaming carnage! In short we needed JOYTECH! You see dear reader, we came to the conclusion, that only our JOYTECH buddies, armed with a veritable plethora of peripherals, could sooth our gaming headache, and boy, did these guys have a few accessory related tricks up their sleeves!
Now you all know only too well what fans we are of JOYTECH here at TVG. As part of the massive Take Two Interactive, these guys consistently come up with the goods, and really, really know their games. They were showing selected journalists some of their closely guarded peripheral secrets that they plan to release throughout the year. All I can say guys, is that you're all in for a bit of a treat, no matter what format you own! We'll be able to spill the beans all in good time, but until then, we've been the first online website to be given JOYTECH's latest Light Gun, the snappy 'Sharp Shooter 2'. The Sharp Shooter 2, is JOYTECH's sequel to the ultra successful PSone gun, and the first dedicated PS2 Light Gun released by the company. It's obvious that they've spent a great deal of time working on this puppy, as it looks, feels, and most importantly works a heck of a lot better than any other third party gun we'd care to mention. JOYTECH are quick to point out the all new 'Chip set' that they've used to power the new gun. Basically the new chip not only makes the gun incredibly accurate (And we mean accurate here folks), but it's pleasingly fast, smooth, AND importantly is compatible with the majority of 100Hz TV's! The trigger feels nice and smooth, whilst the gun has been carefully designed to be neither too heavy nor too light, so shouldn't begin to kill you arm after ten minutes of play! Thankfully the JOYTECH team have based the gun on something approaching a real weapon,. rather than that of a bizarre water pistol. It sits perfectly in your hand, and feels reassuringly gun like to hold.
JOYTECH peripherals wisely steer clear of tacky gimmicks like slow motion and turbo fire (Remember those dark days?!) but here they've included genuinely useful auto reload, auto fire, and auto reload AND auto fire modes, perfect for the lazy, or inept gamer! The Sharp Shooter 2 is compatible with just about every light gun game known to man, supporting 'Normal, G-Con45, and G-con 2' software. We've tried the gun on all the popular shooter games, and have experienced no compatibility problems whatsoever. The gun very kindly includes a D-Pad at the back, along with a stack of action buttons, including a rather nifty Reload button on the base, perfect for those Bruce Willis action movie moments! Perhaps most impressive of all however is JOYTECH's unique Detachable Scope. The scope makes targeting a whole lot easier, and simply clips on or off at will. The action is extremely instinctive, and feels very authentic. Even better, when the scope is attached, it automatically activates JOYTECH's 'Red Dot' targeting system, that projects a red dot through the scope, for pixel perfect aiming! This is an incredibly cool highlight of the gun, and the difference it makes to the game can not be stated enough. Basically it means that you can choose to be a man and go it alone if your feeling brave, or you can simply attach the scope for practically tough sections of the game! Genius! Here at TVG, we've seen a lot of disappointing guns that retail for around twice that of the Sharp Shooter 2, but because JOYTECH manufacture all their peripherals themselves, they've been able to introduce the Sharp Shooter 2 for an amazing SRP of £19.99 for PS2, with an Xbox version following in June (We've tried House of The Dead 3 on it, and it rocks!) for a SRP of just £24.99. Believe us guys, it's worth every penny! So there we are, another month, another peripherals, from those clever fella's at JOYTECH.
The Sharp Shooter 2 has been receiving awesome reviews from all the major mags, and you can read selected quotes on the exclusive TVG Microsite!
We heartily recommend you go give it a shot!
