Grandia 2 return this time on the Dreamcast, and itās your mission to fight the good fight, protect the innocent world from Valmar, Devil of Darkness. As Ryudu, a mercenary Geohound, you are placed with the duty of the safety of Elena, a gorgeous girl, and as normal a unique epic unravels through lush locations and scenarios.
Whilst the PlayStation 2 has its emotion engine, Grandia 2 will captivate you with its fantastic storyline filled with humour, suspense, and feeling. Typical scenes seen only in Final Fantasy games before are present, especially when the game becomes a little sentimental, your macho hero Ryudu will instantly turn it into a different direction. It is vital for any RPG to have a strong storyline and thankfully Grandia 2 has enough twist and turns, and even 180-degree loops to keep you playing for hours on end.
The developers obviously know how hard the combat system in Grandia 2 is, therefore they have created a unique and well placed out tutorial, which after a few minutes will help you understand the basic controls youāll need when you enter a fight, which happens more often than not. Fans of the series may remember the combat system, which puts you in control of a team, with a total of 4 members at any one time. Whilst you are learning the basic moves you can concentrate solely on your main character and let the computer AI manage the other players, however as you get deeper into the game it will become essential to take more direct control over the whole party.
Since its launch the Dreamcast has been starved of any good RPGās, so Grandia 2 fits a nice gap and is up there with the Final Fantasy games in terms of gameplay and style. Saying that the game does have a few faults, hey nothing is perfect. For example it is quite easy to loose yourself in the vast worlds that the developers have created. The compass, which is design to assist you in your navigation, is more confusing, and proves to be of little help.
