Grand Theft Auto 2 Review

Stolen cars, gang wars, swat teams… Grand Theft Auto 2 has it

Not a whole lot of improvement, but enough to be noticed. GTA 2 has the same look and feel of the first game, only a couple notches up. The cars look really sharp, and there is a lot more traffic of the scene this time around. This means, more cars in your way, more cops chasing you, and more helpless pedestrians to run over. Also improved were the explosions, and animations. Exploding buses and trucks look incredible, and sound awesome as well.

Sound ā“
The music gets just as old as it did in the first game. You hop into a car and the radio is playingā¦usually a talk show host, or a bad station. If you get into enough cars, your start hearing repeats of the same talk show. However, I canāt say that the music doesnāt fit the game, because I was switching cars so often, the music didnāt make too much of a difference. As for sound effects, they were slightly improved from the first game, with a little more clarity. Itās fun to hear the people scream, the sound of the police on your tail, and of course the smashing and crashing of cars and trucks in huge pile-ups.

Gameplay ā“
In comparison to the first game, it plays exactly the same, with the addition of a jump maneuver. The driving control has been tweaked and improved to help you make easier lane changes. As for the police, the AI has been improved too. I love how hard the cops try and chase you down. They team up on you and come out of side streets trying to run you off the road. The way they try and pull you over reminds me a lot of the AI from Need For Speed 4 High Stakes.

Overall ā“
GTA 2 is a game all in its own class. Only in this game is the goal to kill people, steal cars, run from the law, associate with gangsters and blow $#!^ up. This is a fun game just to sit down with for hours on end causing havoc in the city. Thereās never a dull moment with GTA 2. The action is always around when you need it, and the in game missions are exciting to do as well. GTA is a great game, and I recommend giving it a chance.
