Watch the fur fly in this game FROM Bizarre Creations.

Animals rule the world and humans are their pets, in Bizarre Creationās Fur Fighters. Characters range form cute to really cute, but the firepower this game packs tells another story. Bizarre may have replaced the blood with fluffy white stuffing, but the game is still incredibly violent. Bad guys are everywhere and its your job to kill them before they have a chance to get you.

Taking control of six different animals with their own abilities, gamers must shoot and think their way through levels to save their little baby animals and the world. Played from a 3rd person perspective Fur Fighters plays like a FPS and an adventure game. You solve puzzles, collect items, and search levels for captured babies, and shoot an endless amount of baddies. This mix of gameplay keeps things interesting for most of the game, and the game is long, maybe too long. Fur Fighters has a cliché story with cliché bad guys but makes up for it with some great humor. The gameplay can get a little tedious at times; you have to find a curtain amount items to get into a curtain door. I myself donāt like collecting endless amounts of items. Although if your the type of gamer that played Donkey Kong 64 until you had all the items and 100% complete on every level, then Fur Fighters is for you. You donāt have to find all the stuff, and itās easy to collect what you need, so there is a fun game here for those that
fall into the 'I want to get to the next level now!' group. To progress from level to level, players must; collect items, save babies, and kill or avoid the bad guys. To do this players use each character for different tasks. If you need to clime you use the cat. If you need to fly, you use the dragonet. If you need to swim you use the Penguin, and so on and so on. This adds greatly to the gameās already large levels, and forces gamers to think differently for each character. If you donāt find anything in the one player game to satisfy your gaming hunger, thereās plenty of fun to be had in the multi-player modes. Up to four players can frag or 'Fluff' each other in 1st or 3rd person. Being able to switch to a 1st person perspective for the four player split screen really frees up a lot of your window.

Fur Fighters looks great, some have complained about low texture quality. That may be true, but itās hardly noticeable. Some textures may look a little pixilated or washed out, but everything else looks so great it doesnāt matter. Interactive water effects, falling snow, extremely tall buildings, no pop up, no fog, and great animation, are all present in Fur Fighter. There are some areas of slowdown, but mostly when too many characters are on screen at once. This slow down while noticeable isnāt significant enough to hinder gameplay, and happens very few times. Color in the game is vibrant and varied, and really helps the cartoony style of the game.

The music is soft and never intruding, but sometimes repetitive. The sound effects are what youād expect. Guns sound like guns, glass breaks with the sound of, and you guessed it, glass. The sound effects work well, and keep the game from sounding the way it looks, like a cartoon. While the music and sound effect are good, the voice acting is terrible. The problem with the voice acting is that there isnāt any. When character talk, we are forced to read test while listening to gibberish. Instead of speech, characters repeat a series of grunts in different pitches. With the amount of space on a GD-ROM and the lack of FMV Fur Fighters should have used speech. But even without speech I would have rather there be no sound from the characters at all. I could never get used to the weird grunts and it can take away from some of the funny and serious parts of the game.

When everything is said and done Fur Fighters is a fun game, with plenty of gameplay to keep most gamers happy. If you liked Donkey Kong then you enjoy Fur Fighter. If you like your action a little on the lighter side then Fur Fighters is just what youāre looking for. If you abuse your younger sibling Teddy Bears then Fur Fighters is definitely for you. But if you cringe at the thought of another adventure game with cute little animals, then avoid Fur Fighters at all costs. For the rest of you out there that donāt fall into the above categories then you might want to rent Fur Fighters for a week end and test the water.
